At the Chapter Spring Conference this year there was a lot of enthusiasm, as well as some concerns, around the chapter’s Government Relations efforts. This was all in the context of trying to pass the necessary step of approving the Chapter’s annual budget and as time was in short supply, the discussion had to be cut short.

To make up for that and to gather input from our chapter members, the Chapter Board will be hosting a Chapter-Wide Government Relations/Legislative Info Session on June 26, 2013. The session will be held at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington (corner of 84th and Penn Ave S). We are working to offer hours (we’ve been approved for up to 2 hours on this topic through NCBTMB) for those who want or need that. While it will be free to attend, we need attendees to register so we can plan for the size crowd to expect. Free registration is at this link below. Registration closes at 12:01am Tues Jun 25, 2013.

We will offer a brief presentation on the basics of the bill we are working to pass, discuss the strengths and obstacles we have before us and have time for lots of questions and ideas. We would love to have as many members attend as can be there. This is our chapter’s biggest budgetary line item and has been for many years. Come find out what we are working on and spending all the money, time and energy working toward. We are counting on our chapter to show up and bring ideas for how we can increase the support the lawmakers in St Paul feel for this effort. Are petitions the right answer? Handouts for clients? What about chair massage at the Capitol? How can a person who doesn’t have much time to spare still make a positive impact? We’ll talk about it all.
